EDFNL Representative Netball Teams compete at Casey Netball Association Tournament
Last Sunday, the four EDFNL Representative Netball teams selected for the Netball Victoria Eastern Zone Association Championships played in the Casey Netball Association tournament.
As preparation for the tournament coming up on the 2nd June in Sale the 17&Under, two 15&Under and 13&Under teams did extremely well against mostly metro Netball Associations, with our 13s coming away as winners of their Grand Final, defeating Chelsea Netball Association, 12 goals to 5.
Coached by the dynamic duo Meg Ferguson and Karina Marcucci, the early start for the 13s was thankfully pushed back with a Round 1 bye as the team went on to win four of their five round matches, with just the one loss to the host Association. All but one player is new to the Rep program this year which is a great sign of things to come for our youngest team.
The 15s Champ team began the day well with a draw against Chelsea NA and a win over Darebin NA, however after the bye, it was three straight losses to some big netball associations including Waverley Night, St Albans Caroline Spings and Springvale.
Coached by Jessica Hammond, the team played extremely well all day and finished a creditable 5th in their division.
The 15s Reserve team had a few late withdrawals before the tournament, but put on a great display of netball during the day. The start wasn't what coach Shelly Brown was after with two losses, however the team got a couple of wins on the board either side of the bye.
Defeating Northern Pride NA and Sale NA gave the team some much needed confidence that they can play good netball and win. A final round loss to a strong Casey NA saw the team finish 6th on the ladder.
The 17s had a tough assignment Round 1 against Mornington Peninsula NA but regrouped after the loss to pick up two close wins against Kingston NA and Merri-Bek NA, both big metro associations.
The bye got in the way of the good run the team had with three losses to finish the day, but all close margins against quality opposition. Coached by Cass Charles, the team have a good blend of players from last years program and five new to the team this year.
Overall it was a great day for all the teams, putting into practice what they've been doing at training the last few weeks. This Sunday, they'll have a rest day and can treat their Mum for Mother's Day, before resuming training for the Sale tournament in June.
